Today Danny Rurlander, a local children's author, and ex-parent at our school, came to talk to Years 4, 5 and 6 about his first book "Spylark". Flying and drones are a key part of the story and so the talk started with a paper plane competition, won by Benjamin! We learnt about Danny's childhood in the Lake District, which involved lots of hiking, canoeing, camping and sailing. Many of these activities happen in the book, which is set in the Lake District. Danny also talked about his love of flying and drones, and brought in Buzz, his own drone. Can you see it in the pictures?! Many children bought a copy of Danny's book and had it signed. It was a great, interactive talk and we went away feeling inspired both with our reading and writing.
