History collaboration on the Chromebooks
Today we have combined history with our computing skills to work on creating slideshows on the topic of evacuation in WW2. We used Google Classroom to work in pairs on the same slideshow, but on different Chromebooks.
Y6 printing project begins
Today, we began our printing project, with the final product being our Christmas cards. The first stage involves making a simple print block and choosing the ink colour for the base of our design. It was really exciting to peel back and reveal our first print!
Investigating the evacuee experience
As part of our history work on WW2, we have been investigating the experiences of children who were evacuated from the big cities to the countryside in September 1939. We took on the roles, and the real-life stories of evacuees, and shared them with the rest of our class. We rated the different…
Medical students visit Year 6
This afternoon we had four medical students from Lancaster University visiting our class. They told us about different aspects of keeping healthy, such as healthy eating, good sleep habits, exercise, personal hygiene and mental health. They also taught us what to do in an emergency and we had a go…
Year 6 Water Resistance
Today Year 6 had great fun playing with plasticine! They had to predict which shapes would be most streamline and therefore fall to the bottom of a measuring cylinder fastest. They explored how to create more water resistance and slow down the speed at which the shapes sank to the bottom. They…
Lancaster and Morecambe schools’ football tournament
Some of our Year 5 and 6 boys spent the day at Lancaster and Morecambe College, taking part in the inter schools tournament. We tried hard in the group stages but we didn’t make it further than the first of the knock- out rounds ( where we narrowly lost 1-0 to Grosvenor Park). Well done to all the…
Outdoor mental maths
Year 6 took their maths lesson out into the sunshine this morning. Before looking at formal written methods of addition and subtraction next week, we reminded ourselves of mental strategies and jottings we can use to help us solve problems. We worked in pairs to have a go at some examples.
Year 6’s last day at Lockerbie
We began our final day at Lockerbie with the challenge of packing our suitcases and sleeping bags before enjoying our final delicious breakfast. We all then learnt some volleyball skills on the field. Some of us had abseiling as our final activity, whilst one group had the challenge of initiative…
Thursday at Lockerbie
The day started with two groups doing archery and another learning to fence. We all had to work in teams at raft building in the afternoon, with great success. We also tackled some initiative exercises, learnt how to survive in the wilds and had a go at abseiling.
Wednesday at Lockerbie
The rain held off for us this morning, whilst we all enjoyed canoeing and kayaking on the lake. In the afternoon and evening we had a variety of activities to try out, including low ropes, crate stacking and axe throwing.
Tuesday at Lockerbie
The sun shone on us all day, as we climbed walls, built dens, negotiated the high ropes course and practised our aim in target shooting. We all took part in orienteering, with Mrs Anderson and Miss Huddleston narrowly winning (by one point!).
Y6 arrive at Lockerbie
Year 6 set off for Lockerbie at lunchtime today. They have thrown themselves into the afternoon and evening’s activities with gusto, most of them ending the day covered in mud!
