Year 3/4 Writing Workshop 2025

Today four children from Year 3 and 4 attended a writer's workshop at Bowerham School led by the writer David Webb.  They had a really great day and learnt some great writing techniques.

Finding mistakes in history (anachronisms!)

We have been learning and researching all about the Stone Age and today we looked at a picture which had some historical mistakes (anachronisms) in them.  We had to try to find all 20 mistakes.  It was hard but we managed it!

Year 3 are getting good at counting in 8s!

This week we have been practising counting in 8s and have really enjoyed the 8x table song.

Julian Opie style portraits

This afternoon, we have been looking at the portrait work by the British artist Julian Opie (you might remember his artwork on the Best of Blur album). We used photographs to trace our faces with simple features onto plastic wallets. They are displayed on our classroom windows.

Can I make a switch?

We have discussed how switches work and why electrical appliances have them, as well as looking at different types of switches. We were then given paper, tin foil, paper clips, split pins and other resources to have a go at making different types of switches.

The Great Scotforth Bread Bake Off 2025

Today we used the plans we had created to make our final bread pieces in DT. 
Once the pieces were kneaded, shaped and baked we decorated them. 
Mrs Walsh was the judge. She chose 3 winners.

The Great Scotforth Bake-off

Wednesday was our bake off competition. What a lot of entries and judges! Thanks to all the parents who helped in any way.

We had so many cakes we managed two cake sales. Look out for the total raised towards our children’s kitchen.

Making Bread y1

We read “The Little Red Hen” and spoke about how she made the bread and the skills needed to do it. We thought we would try it for ourselves. 
We looked at the skills of mixing, kneading and rolling. Our bread tasted so delicious and smelt amazing

Thank you to another Mummy who came into school today. She told us about her job and how she helped people every day. She discussed how dangerous medicines could be and how we should always ask an adult.

Being Scientists

Today in Year 5 we have been training to be Scientists. Dr Rigby came from Lancaster University to teach us about bacteria in the digestive system. We used microscopes to look at the intestine of a mouse and found out about good and bad bacteria and why we need both of these in our gut.
