Year 3 Stone Age Dance
We have been developing a dance based on our topic of the Stone Age. Today we showed it to Mrs Boyle and the Y1 class. They really enjoyed it and we hope you will too.
Making our Moving Toys
After learning about and investigating the power of air (pneumatics!), this week we finally planned and made our moving toys. We investigated different ways to use balloons, pipes and syringes to create movement and then came the challenging, fun and messy(!) part…we got to transform cardboard…
Investigating the power of air in Y3
In DT we are investigating pneumatics as soon we will be making our own pneumatic moving models. Today we made paper rockets and used air power (from our lungs through a straw!) to propel the rockets forwards. We learnt that even a small amount of air can be very powerful…
Measuring capacity (and trying not to get too wet!)
We are learning about capacity and volume in maths. Today we started this new topic with a practical session finding the capacity of lots of different containers. We used coloured water to make it easier to see. We estimated for each different container and our estimates got better as we went…
A cave in the corner of Year 3?!
Here are all of our amazing pictures based on cave paintings! We have written diary entries based on our book "Stone Age Boy". We are also loving finding out more about Prehistoric Britain with some new non-fiction books.
Investigating Stonehenge in Year 3
In Year 3 we are now learning about the Neolithic Stone Age (the New Stone Age) when farming was first used widely in Britain. We have been learning about the amazing monument of Stonehenge and how it was made. We did a fact treasure hunt to find out as much as we could about it. It is incredible…
Y3 Cave Paintings
We are continuing our history topic, investigating the Stone Age, and this week made some pictures of cave art using ink washes to create the cave walls and charcoal/pastels with our own stencils to show the animals. We are really pleased with the results!
Busy morning in Y3!
This morning we did some cave art (see other blog), some spelling practice, some history (investigating the work of archaeologists) and even some practical maths measuring mass. And that was all before break time! Phew! Well done Year 3!
Year 3 Cave Art
We are continuing finding out about the Stone Age in our art lessons! Today we read the book First Drawing and imagined how it would be to live in the Stone Age and only have cave walls and charcoal to draw with. We use real charcoal to try to recreate some of the Stone Age animals that were drawn…
Year 3 Being Archaeologists ( or…Investigating Rubbish!)
We are learning about the roles of archaeologists as part of our new history topic - the Stone Age to the Iron Age. Today we worked in groups sorting through the classroom bins from yesterday. We were trying to work out which bin went with which class just by looking at what they had left behind.…
Exploring the Stone Age in Y3
We have started our new topic - Stone Age Britain - and today looked at the amazingly long time that the Stone Age lasted. We found out that prehistory means before written records and that for most of human history there was no writing! We used toilet roll to show how long humans have been living…
Year 3 and 4 Intrasports
In Year 3 and 4 we celebrated the end of term with a great afternoon of intra-sports between the different coloured teams. We played a version cricket (having been inspired by Coach Lauren earlier this term) and there were super catches, impressive hitting and great bowling from Mrs Winder and…
