We enjoyed our Cricket Taster Day with Lauren today. We learnt to hit the ball into a space and to throw the ball underarm. 

We enjoyed our annual egg rolling competition today. 

We enjoyed practising our gymnastic sequences on the apparatus this week. 

We have been building upon our own Matisse style collages. We have been practising the skill of plaiting and added it onto our collages.

We loved having Holly’s pet dog in today. We found out all about how to look later dogs, what he eats and what he likes. We asked lots of interesting questions.

In Year 1 we have been learning about Spring time and how new life can sprout and flourish at this time of year. We looked at a range of seeds and marvelled at how such a tiny thing can create something that we can eat or admire! We then planted some seeds in our teams and made sure to give them…

We have been learning what different animals eat and sorting them into 3 categories: herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. 

We created aerial view plans of our classroom using a range of materials found within the classroom. Each group decided upon and devised a key when making their maps so they were clear and easy to follow! 
 

Year 1 enjoyed a spring walk around the school grounds today. We looked for signs of the season and learned about why some trees lost their leaves over winter whilst others didn’t! We learned the new terms ‘deciduous’ and ‘evergreen’ and spotted these trees in our nature area. We heard birds…

We were very lucky to have Julia Donaldson read a traditional tale as part of our literacy topic this week. We also had an illustration masterclass from the famous illustrator, Axel Scheffler.

Thank you to Mrs Kornas who brought in their beautiful pet guinea pigs. We learnt all about how they care for them , what they eat and where they sleep. We all had the option to give them a stroke too! 

We explored mixing the primary colours to make secondary colours. We also discussed how we could make them lighter and darker.
