Book day in Year 3
Today was Scotforth’s book day which was based around the story The Day the Crayons Quit. We wrote a letter to the beige crayon to cheer it up and we made some animations using Scratch.
Year 1 Live with Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler
We were very lucky to have Julia Donaldson read a traditional tale as part of our literacy topic this week. We also had an illustration masterclass from the famous illustrator, Axel Scheffler.
Y1 Making Bread like Little Red Hen
We have been reading the story of Little Red Hen in our English. We discussed where the ingredients come from and we had a go at making our own bread. We looked at the skills of sifting, mixing and kneading.
Traction Man Adventures
We have loved reenacting the Traction Man book this week. We have escaped the ‘evil cushions’ and delved into the ‘soapy waters’ to escape the ‘poisonous dishcloth!’ We have enjoyed making up our own adventures too.

Reading our Bonfire Safety Instructions
We have written some safety instructions and we enjoyed sharing them with Reception class today.
Retelling the story
We enjoyed using expression to retell the story. We tried to change our voices to re-enact the the characters’ feelings.
Reading detectives
We have been getting ready to write our information text about the Loch Ness Monster by looking at a variety of non-fiction texts. We have been detectives finding key features within them such as headings, subheadings, questions, photos, pictures and captions.
Jabberwocky

Year 4 English - The Loch Ness Monster
Year 4 have been writing questions. These are all the things they would like to find out about the Loch Ness Monster. During our English lessons, we will be reading lots of texts to find the answers. Next, we will use all the facts to create our own posters.
Macbeth performance
Year 6 have been learning the story of Macbeth, one of William Shakespeare’s plays. Today they did their first performance of their very own version. Shakespeare’s original play certainly didn’t include singing assassins and rappers!
