Pizza time
Today, we were eating pizza! We had to decide which nutrients were in each slice first though.
BUZZING with Excitement for our Circuits Unit!
Year 6 explored the exciting world of Electrical Circuits this week and refreshed their learning and knowledge from Year 4 before moving onto understanding, building from, and drawing circuit diagrams using symbols for a range of components.
Year 6's top tips for drawing circuit diagrams:
1.…
Where is the best place to dry our washing?
Today, we have been learning about evaporation. Lots of different materials could be seen hanging around school because Y4 were trying to find out where the best place was to dry our washing. We had a discussion about the most suitable conditions to dry clothes and decided that it needed to be…
Y1 Materials
We have enjoyed exploring toys and objects. We also matched the name of the material to that object.
Does gas weigh anything?
Today we were investigating whether gas weighs anything. We had a selection of fizzy drinks and we weighed them. Then we shook them to make them go flat and released the gas out of them, which is called carbon dioxide. We weighed them again to see if they were lighter and they were, which proved…
Dancing Raisins
We have been discussing what makes drinks fizzy and learnt that a gas called carbon dioxide is added to drinks. A man called Joseph Priestley invented the carbonation process to create fizzy drinks. We put raisins into a glass of lemonade and watched them dance. Bubbles of carbon dioxide…
Exploring our Sense of Taste
We have enjoyed exploring the sense of taste this week. We had to guess the range of fruit and vegetables and whether we liked it or not. It was lovely to see the children trying different foods and some children found out they actually liked it !
Our sense of smell
Today we used our sense of smell . We decided if we liked the smell or not and had a go at guessing what might be making the smell. We use our senses to explore and make sense of the world around us.
Forces? Year 6 ‘PULLEY’ understand!
This term we’ve been learning about forces- air resistance couldn’t hold us back; we wouldn’t let gravity pull us down; things heated up when we learned about friction; and we were swept away by water resistance! Therefore, we couldn’t wait to see how our forces learning would pull us in and push…
Having fun learning about non-Newtonian fluids
Today, we have been making ‘gloop’, which is also sometimes called Oobleck. We mixed water and cornflour together to create a mixture that is a non-Newtonian fluid. The cornflour doesn’t dissolve in the cold water so when stress is put on the mixture such as squeezing or hitting it, it acts like a…
How can we separate different sized solids?
We have been discussing how we could separate solids today. Remembering their learning from Y3, the children discussed how magnets could be used if there was metal involved. We also investigated how to separate different sized solids using a variety of sieves.
Investigating our sense of touch
We continued exploring our senses by looking at the sense of touch. We described how things felt in the feely bag and we tried to guess what they were.
