Y3 Cave Paintings
We are continuing our history topic, investigating the Stone Age, and this week made some pictures of cave art using ink washes to create the cave walls and charcoal/pastels with our own stencils to show the animals. We are really pleased with the results!
Pupil Parliament
Four children went to the Pupil Parliament meeting today and thought about sexual equality. They discussed different jobs and toys that can be advertised for specific genders. It was really interesting and thought provoking.
Busy morning in Y3!
This morning we did some cave art (see other blog), some spelling practice, some history (investigating the work of archaeologists) and even some practical maths measuring mass. And that was all before break time! Phew! Well done Year 3!
Axle making
This afternoon, we were investigating axles to make a moving vehicle with junk modelling materials.
St George’s Day
As St George is the patron saint of the Scouting organisation, the children were invited to wear their Scout, Cub or Squirrel uniform. They looked very smart!
A living timeline of Lancaster’s history
Year 6 ventured down to the field for our history lesson this morning. We wanted to create a timeline showing the development of the city of Lancaster, from its Roman origins to the twentieth century. Our timeline was far too long to fit into the classroom, but we had plenty of room on the field.…
Tenths on a number line
Today, we have been learning about tenths on a number line in maths. Rulers show this really well. We have used rulers to measure lines and write the lengths in decimals. Each millimetre is a tenth of a centimetre. We drew pictures with our rulers using lengths written in decimals.
CancerCare Assembly
Lisa, from CancerCare, joined us on Wednesday and talked about how CancerCare support people of all ages. We presented her with a cheque of over £700 from the fundraising events organised by the School Council.
Tasting Greek food
This afternoon, we had the opportunity to taste some Greek food. Even if we had never tried it before, some of us were brave enough to have a go….and actually quite liked it! We were very proud of ourselves for trying (and so was Mrs Mayor). We tasted Greek yoghurt, feta cheese, pitta bread,…
Greek Workshop
What a fun morning we have had today! We had a visit from Professor Tuesday who taught us all about the different periods of history in Ancient Greece. We made a human timeline and acted out each period. We also learnt about the different city-states and how they were ruled. We were then given a…
Year 3 Cave Art
We are continuing finding out about the Stone Age in our art lessons! Today we read the book First Drawing and imagined how it would be to live in the Stone Age and only have cave walls and charcoal to draw with. We use real charcoal to try to recreate some of the Stone Age animals that were drawn…
Year 3 Being Archaeologists ( or…Investigating Rubbish!)
We are learning about the roles of archaeologists as part of our new history topic - the Stone Age to the Iron Age. Today we worked in groups sorting through the classroom bins from yesterday. We were trying to work out which bin went with which class just by looking at what they had left behind.…
