Materials Experiment- Testing Properties
As part of our topic of “Toys,” we are looking at different materials and their properties. We are using different vocabulary to describe the materials like hard, smooth, rough.
Creating Scientific Keys
In science we have looked at using keys to classify things, particularly living things. Today we used our knowledge of keys to create our own ones for a wide variety of sweets! We had to look at size, colour, texture, the ingredients and the structure in order to sort the different sweets. Look at…
Friction experiments
We have been completing lots of investigations to learn about friction. We used force meters to move our PE bags across different surfaces and have devised our own experiment to test which surface creates more friction. We have also made paper spinners to test air…
Investigating circuits
In Year 4, we have been exploring different circuits and making our own. We have been investigating materials that are insulators and those that are electrical conductors.
Material Sorting
We have been looking at everyday materials and sorting them in different ways. We discussed their material name and their properties.
Investigating circulation
Today, we were learning about our circulatory system - how the blood moves around our bodies, providing our muscles with oxygen from our lungs. As part of our learning, we looked at some lambs' hearts to investigate how the vessels are linked inside.
Autumn walk in the garden.
We enjoyed a walk in the garden looking at all the different leaves and berries.

Year 6 STEM workshop
Can you fit 5 people through an A4 piece of paper? If you think the answer is no, then talk to some Year 6 children who now know better! This is because we were visited today by Dr Irene Wise from Lancaster University who talked to us about STEM skills (Science, Technology, Engineering and…
Lune Aqueduct Trip
This week, Year 5 went to Lune aqueduct. We learnt more about its history and also went pond dipping. We finished the trip with a McFlurry (a highlight for some of us!).
South lakes zoo trip
Nursery went on a coach to South lakes zoo for the day. We saw lots of animals and enjoyed playing on the park.

Friction investigation
We have carried out a variety of investigations to understand and learn more about friction.
Making switches
In Y4, we have been learning all about 'Electricity'. We have looked at insulators and conductors and have made circuits with buzzers, bulbs and motors. The children really enjoyed making different types of switches.
