Separating mixtures
We have had lots of fun separating mixtures using a variety of different sized sieves. We had to decide which sieves to use and how we were going to separate three different solids such as sand, rice and pasta. We also used magnets to help us to separate the solids, as some of the mixtures had…
What happens to solids when we heat them up?
We have been investigating what happens to solids when they are heated or cooled. We have heated chocolate, butter, wax, ice, jelly, bread and an egg to see whether they changed state and we recorded our results.
Particles in solids
We have been looking at solids, liquids and gases and their properties. We had lots of fun using the Easi-scopes to look at magnified particles in ‘solids that behave like liquids’.
Experimenting
We have been experimenting with different sized vehicles and tubes. We tried to predict which vehicles would fit down which tube. We tried out our predictions.
Shadow size investigation
Today in Year 3, we have been investigating what happens to a shadow when the light source moves further away.
The children worked in small groups using torches to cast shadows and rulers to measure the heights of the shadows.
We found out that when the light moves further away the shadow…
Classification Keys
We have been using classification keys to identify living things. We completed them both in groups and individually.
Classifying animals
We have been looking at different ways to group animals and have sorted them using Venn diagrams. We discussed lots of different ways to classify them.
Creating Vomit in Science (Trigger warning!)
Today we learnt all about the digestive system and in particular the stomach. We learnt that sometimes the stomach needs to get rid of food that could be harmful to the body. Trigger warning! Do not watch the video if you are squeamish!
Year 3 light source search
This afternoon, Year 3 were searching for light sources around school. We looked in our classroom, the creative room, the hall and the computer suite. We found out the computer suite had the most light sources despite it being the smallest room we searched. We made tallies of the light sources and…
Steady On, Year 6!
We have combined our newly-acquired Scientific knowledge with our D&T skills, alongside a dash of creativity and produced our very own, fully-functioning steady-hand games this afternoon! We had a fantastic afternoon, showing off and applying all of our new Electrical Circuits learning from the…
Flower Collage
We made a collage of a plant naming each of the parts of the flower and describing their jobs.
